San Diego Bazaar Del Mundo

My blogs are not going to be in order of when they happened.
It has been a busy couple of weeks, and will just get a bit busier with "Trails" coming up fast.

While we were in So. Cal we continued to play tourist and went to visit Bazaar Del Mundo.  I just love these colors, and wonder if I could really live with them on the walls of our house. Getting tired of white.

Everything makes you smile, the bright colors, the funky flowers, the turquoise jewelry and the sparkling silver.

We ate at Casa Guadalajara in Old Town. Over ate is more the right statement.
A tiny little bird hopped around picking up little pieces of chips. He never stayed still enough for my camera.. But I tried.

Several plants I miss in the mountains are the Bougainvillaea, and the size of the Hibiscus.

We stayed in Oceanside, this was the location of the wedding. Especially enjoyed the look of jungle  gardens, and  the ocean is just steps away.

Visions San Diego, Art Gallery Row

Visions Museum in San Diego, is in a wonderful inspirational setting. Of course, after our "golden" mountain area, the greenery, and lawns looked inviting enough to roll on. But figured I might get carted away as some nut. No comment from those that know me!

Look at this great idea to soften the bars on the windows of this building.  All the buildings are a peachy color, with arches every where. We were told the hope is that more artists move into this area and they are now having open studio tours on specific days. I was a bit disappointed with the  Gallery size in Visions, I would have liked to see a bigger gallery room.  The semi annual " Quilt Visions 2012"  Exhibition will be here instead of Oceanside Museum, opening, Oct. 20- Feb. 17th. Non- profits are just fortunate to function these days and have a space to show art.  The exhibitions that we saw were wonderful. I won't go into detail, because there was a "no-photography sign",,, enough to say, Go Visit.

I am sorry I did not get the story behind these benches..

I just fell in love with them, and there are more!

Oh, I lost the card that told about this Gallery and the artist that created this "piece".
No, my husband is not part of the display.  Usually I keep him in tow, but as I was talking to the lady that runs this gallery, I looked up and my husband was trying out the bicycle.  Thankfuly,
that is what it is there for and part of the art display.

The San Diego Watercolor Society, is in the same building. Their display was variety of media, not the usual watercolors of oceans, and they had a display of Mixed Media pieces..

If you are in that area, be sure to take the time to meander and enjoy. Then go to lunch in Old Town, really close and easy to get to.

Family Wedding

They are now married and I can post about  one of the gifts.

What do you get a couple when they have been together for years? I am in the middle of dead lines for shows, but I can never sit at night at the sewing machine, too tired.  But I need something to keep my hands busy in the evening while watching T.V.  Due to Arthritis, my hands hurt and can only work on hand work for a little while.

I decided to hand embroider Pillow Cases with Red work. Carmel and R.J. and the reverse on the other pillow case.

I searched through my fonts till I found one that I knew would transfer to hand work. Enlarged them to the size which would work, added some flowers and design with red pigma pen.  This of course after taking the stitching out of the pillow ends.  Hand embroidered and then sewed the sections back together.

I love doing hand work, and have some Red Work blocks some where in my stash to finish into ....... I 'm not sure,, but one of these days, they will go together.

I hope they like them.

Fabric Dyeing Class Sept. 2012

The weather was perfect, a little warm, but much better than having rain.

A delightful group of ladies gathered to learn Procion dyeing in Jars. I try to teach this class at least twice a year.

There are many ways to dye fabric, and tons of books, but nothing better than a group of ladies
having a fun day and sharing ideas.

Several of the ladies are teachers, or were teachers. A few ladies had taken my class before
and challenged some of their fabric out side of the jars.

We start by covering my method of fabric dyeing. We finished about noon, just in time to share a salad lunch where everyone contributes some topping to the salad. I supply the lettuce, bread, drink and dessert.

Here are some samples of how their fabrics turned out.

What fun to show them all flying in the wind on a line.
I love all the colors.

Thank you for a delightful day also!

Sierra Art Trails 2012 Reception

I thought I would be early to the Sierra Art Trails Reception but there already was a crowd at 4:30 when I arrived and still there when I left about 7:30.  Great music, food, and a chance to meet the artists and plan your route to the studios.

This year there are 108 artists. My piece " Metamorphosis"  is only one of a few contemporary pieces showing. There is every medium, fiber, metal, jewelry, paintings, and photography in the exhibition.. This is our 10th year, I have participated 8 times.

Several pieces sold that evening, a great start for the show. So plan to join us Oct. 5th, 6th, 7th. You will be able to see a small sample of my art at Timberline Gallery at Gallery Row.

Come see me in person and view a variety of my art, gourds, jewelry, clothing and fiber art, at the Coarsegold Historical Museum on highway 41. I will have some demonstrations set up.

Follow the short gravel road through the gate. I will be in the green school house.  Posters go up the night before, so you should not have any problems finding me.

Look forward to chatting with you.

View from the Balcony

We seldom get away on vacation. But this time we had a wedding to attend in Oceanside.
This was the view from our balcony. Beautiful weather, although a bit humid.

Sunsets were spectacular, we even had some time to run down to San Diego to play tourist. Will write about that later.

But for the moment relax and enjoy the pounding surf, and the smell of the ocean. Take a deep breath and just relax.

Zentangles- exciting

Most of you know I belong to a Postcard Exchange Group, called Postmarkd'art.
One of the theme's I signed up for was Zentangles, another was the letter O, as my part of the alphabet.

Yesterday I had planned to write this blog, but kept coming up with all sorts of strange things on the computer, Picassa would not work, and decided I better just take my frustration somewhere else.  So I finished drawing my "O".

Printed it on Organza

And today stitched the Organza over hand dyed fabrics.  Yes, it does come out lighter, but it still has the effect. I hope everyone in the group likes this design. There might be other ways of transferring my drawing... Do you have any suggestions.. This is great fun!
